This month we're bringing you a special evening focused on a technology that is creating a completely new layer of experience design considerations.
Voice tech is destined to upend old ways of doing things, but is unfortunately still reinforcing stereotypes and biases of people who create it. From female voices used as default in virtual assistants like Alexa or Siri, to voice tech that fails to recognize female voice (but works just fine for male voices).
As decisions made by algorithms come to control more aspects of our lives, we need to be thoughtful and strategic in making sure those decisions are not biased against the 50% of population that is underrepresented in the ranks of people who actually design AI algorithms. AI development must become more inclusive and representative of our world. Women in innovation have a unique opportunity to use their mandate as positive force for change.
In partnership with RAIN, a company that’s pioneering Voice and Conversational AI development, WIN is amplifying a much needed conversation around designing thoughtful AI-enabled products that will soon power our homes, cars, workplaces, smartphones, and everything else in between.
This fast-paced session will come in a speed-dating format with a rotating spectrum of conversations in 5 group. Participants will hear from the front line of AI and voice tech, from the movers and shakers in the industry:
- Audrey Wu, Co-Founder and CEO at CONVRG
- Bea Arthur, Founder and CEO at The Difference
- Liz Danzico, Creative Director at NPR and Chair and Co-founder, MFA Interaction Design at SVA
- Naomi Makofsky, Global Product Partnerships for Google Assistant
- Nithya Thadani, CEO at RAIN
The audience is encouraged to pose questions, share experiences in working with AI and voice tech, and contribute a point-of-view to the discussion, in a free flowing organic format throughout the evening.
